Queen Mary 2's Atlantic crossing is the main way to sail to Europe from New York. It leaves Brooklyn, spends seven nights at sea with no stops, and reaches Southampton, England, on the morning of the eighth day. Most of the other Europe sailings are long ones, either a northern route through Greenland and Iceland or round trips of five weeks or more.

The schedule has 67 Europe sailings, with fares from $529 to $45,999 per person on 31 October 2026, for the cheapest cabin with taxes and fees included. Many of them are one departure sold at several lengths, and the table at the end of this guide lists each length separately.

How long is the Queen Mary 2 transatlantic crossing from New York?

The Queen Mary 2 crossing from New York to Southampton takes 7 nights, with six full days at sea and no stops. The ship usually leaves at about 5pm, and the itineraries on Cruisebound have it docking at 6:30am on the eighth day.

A few winter crossings run longer, at 9 nights in January 2027 and 8 nights in January and March 2028.

Cunard calls Queen Mary 2 the world's only ocean liner and says its hull is thicker and stronger than a cruise ship's. The ship is due for a refit, and Cunard's deck plans show a new layout for sailings after 30 March 2027. Dogs and cats can make the crossing too, in 24 kennels on board.

How often does Queen Mary 2 sail from New York to Southampton?

Queen Mary 2 crosses from New York about once a month from May to October, with gaps, and a few times in winter. It is not a weekly service.

  • 2027. January, May, June, July, October and December.
  • 2028. January, March, April, June, July, August, September and October.

The day of the week changes. Friday is the most common, but crossings also leave on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. There is no direct crossing in August or September 2027, when the ship goes by way of Iceland or Canada instead.

Does Queen Mary 2 sail in both directions?

Yes. Cunard sells the crossing eastbound from New York to Southampton and westbound from Southampton to New York. This site lists departures from New York, so you will only see the eastbound trip here.

To sail both ways from New York, book the 14-night round trip with a stop in Southampton. It is on the schedule for July 2027 and for July and September 2028.

Which New York terminal does Queen Mary 2 use?

Queen Mary 2 uses the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. Every Cunard sailing on the official Cruise NYC calendar, which runs to 22 December 2027, leaves from there. The terminals for later sailings are not published yet.

How do the longer Queen Mary 2 voyages work?

Most crossing dates are also sold as longer voyages, so you stay on board at Southampton and carry on. That is why one departure can appear several times in the table.

  • To Hamburg. 9 or 10 nights, one way.
  • Round trips. 14 to 34 nights, back to New York, with stops such as the Norwegian fjords, Rotterdam or Lisbon.
  • By way of Canada. Sold from the September departures, 21 or 24 nights through Quebec City and on to Southampton or Hamburg.

Yes, but the round trips take at least five weeks. Do you need to fly home after a Europe cruise from New York?

Yes on a one-way, and most Europe sailings on this schedule are one-way. Most of those end in Southampton, the rest mainly in Hamburg, Reykjavik or Bergen, and the fares on this site do not include the flight back.

For Southampton, Cunard's airport guide says the port is about 80 miles southwest of London. These are its times for the trip to Southampton, so allow the same coming back:

  • From Heathrow. About 1 hour 55 minutes by direct National Express coach, or 2 hours 10 minutes by train with two or three changes.
  • From Gatwick. About 2 hours by train with one or two changes.

Queen Mary 2 docks at 6:30am, but you still have to clear the ship and cross southern England, so a morning flight is a risk. Cunard also sells flights with its voyages through its CompleteAir program. Our documents guide covers what you need to travel.

When is the best time to cross the Atlantic?

Cunard says a sailing between December and May has the most favorable weather. It says Atlantic storms are more likely from early June to late November, with most activity from mid-August to mid-October, and that many people prefer April and May. Most of the crossings on this schedule leave between May and October, which overlaps those storm months.

How much does a Queen Mary 2 crossing cost?

The lowest fare on any Queen Mary 2 sailing from New York was $529 per person on 31 October 2026, for the cheapest cabin with taxes and fees included. Its lowest fare per night that day, on any route, was $59.

When this guide was checked on 30 October 2026, that lowest fare was a 7-night crossing in December 2027. Some crossings close to their sailing date showed only suite fares, so a high figure in the table can mean the cheaper cabins have gone. Our cheap cruises page compares fares across every route, and the Europe destination page lists the sailings by date.
