Bermuda cruises from New York: Hamilton or the Dockyard?
Nearly every New York cruise docks at the Royal Naval Dockyard, not in Hamilton. The Bermuda Tourism Authority names King's Wharf and Heritage Wharf at the Dockyard as the choice for large ships. It also lists the Hamilton Passenger Terminal, and Pennos Wharf in St. George's for small to medium-sized ships.
Bermuda's 2027 port schedule gives these berths:
- King's Wharf for Norwegian Luna and Norwegian Bliss.
- King's Wharf for most Carnival Firenze calls, and Heritage Wharf for the rest.
- Heritage Wharf for Disney Wish and Norwegian Prima.
- The Hamilton 5/6 terminal for Azamara Quest.
Only two ships on this schedule use Hamilton, both on one-way voyages. Azamara Quest stays two nights in October 2027, and Silver Spirit calls for a day in October 2028. No sailing here calls at St. George's.
How do you get from the Dockyard to Hamilton and St. George's?
The ferry is the fastest way from the Dockyard to Hamilton, at 20 to 30 minutes against about an hour by bus. A summer Orange route ferry runs directly to St. George's.
To Hamilton by ferry. Bermuda's summer timetable, effective 6 April 2026, has Blue route boats leaving the Dockyard on weekdays about hourly from 8am to 2pm, then at 4pm, 6pm, 8pm, 9pm and 10pm. Weekend boats start at 9:15am and run about every 90 minutes through the afternoon.
To Hamilton by bus. Routes 7 and 8 both run between the Dockyard and Hamilton, and the government's bus timetable, effective 19 September 2025, allows 62 minutes for each. Route 7 follows the South Shore, reaches Horseshoe Bay about 37 minutes from the Dockyard, and leaves about every 30 minutes for most of the day.
To St. George's. The Orange route leaves the Dockyard at 9:30am, 11:30am and 3pm from Monday to Saturday, plus 5pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The last boat back from St. George's is at 6pm on those four days and 4pm on Tuesdays and Fridays. The Bermuda Tourism Authority says Norwegian also runs a direct ferry for its own passengers, and that you can take the Blue route to Hamilton and then bus 1, 3, 10 or 11.
These are the timetables published when this guide was checked on 30 October 2026. A 2027 or 2028 cruise may run to a newer one, so look up the current schedule before you sail and compare the last boat with your ship's departure.
How much are Bermuda buses and ferries?
A 1-day pass for Bermuda's buses and ferries cost $19.00 for an adult when these Government of Bermuda prices were checked on 30 October 2026.
| Ticket | Adult | Child, 5 to 15 |
|---|---|---|
| Ferry, Blue or Orange route, cash | $5.00 | $2.75 |
| Bus, 14 zones, cash | $5.00 | $2.75 |
| 1-day bus and ferry pass | $19.00 | $9.50 |
| 2-day pass | $31.50 | $16.00 |
| 3-day pass | $44.00 | $22.00 |
The Dockyard to Hamilton is a 14-zone bus trip. A pass covers every bus and ferry route, and children under 5 ride free. The government says cash fares need exact change in coins, because drivers do not give change and dollar bills are not accepted, so a pass is easier. It pays for itself from your fourth ride of the day. The Visitor Information Centre at the Dockyard sells tokens and passes.
