New York cruise terminals: Manhattan, Brooklyn or Cape Liberty?

New York City has two cruise terminals about 8 miles apart by road: Manhattan at 711 12th Avenue and Brooklyn at 210 Clinton Wharf. A line's usual terminal can change, so check the row for your date. Royal Caribbean and Celebrity use a third port, Cape Liberty in New Jersey.

Your terminal depends on your ship and your date, so start with the row for your sailing. New York City has two cruise terminals, in two boroughs, about 8 miles apart by road:

  • Manhattan Cruise Terminal, 711 12th Avenue, New York, NY 10019, on the Hudson River in Midtown West
  • Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, 210 Clinton Wharf, Brooklyn, NY 11231, in Red Hook

Royal Caribbean and Celebrity use neither. They sail from Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey, which this site does not list.

This site is independent. It is not Cruise NYC, a terminal, a cruise line or a travel agent.

Which cruise terminal does my ship use in New York?

Check your sailing on the schedule or read your boarding documents, because those give the terminal for your date and the line alone does not. Cruise NYC, the city's official cruise site, publishes a calendar of every ship at both terminals. From 2 September 2026 to 22 December 2027, it shows this pattern for the lines on this site:

TerminalLines on the official calendar
ManhattanNorwegian, Carnival, Disney, Regent, Holland America, Azamara, Explora Journeys, Silversea
BrooklynCunard, Princess
BothOceania, Seabourn, Viking

A line's usual terminal can change. Five ships appear at both on the same calendar:

ShipAt ManhattanAt Brooklyn
Oceania Vista13 September and 28 October 20266 October 2026
Seabourn Ovation19 October 202613 September 2026
Viking Mars16 September 202723 September 2026
Viking Polaris25 October 202613 October 2027
Viking Octantis20 April 202717 October 2027

Princess shows only Brooklyn in that period, yet the calendar has Crown Princess at Manhattan on 17 August 2025 and Majestic Princess there on 28 October 2025.

Why some sailings show no terminal

This site takes the terminal from the official calendar and nowhere else. That calendar ends on 22 December 2027, so later sailings show no terminal, and we do not guess one from the line. Today 106 of the 262 sailings here show Manhattan and 52 show Brooklyn. If yours shows none, use your boarding documents.

You can browse each terminal's sailings on the Manhattan and Brooklyn pages.

How far apart are the Manhattan and Brooklyn cruise terminals?

They are about 8 miles apart by road. Our routing check on 30 October 2026 gave 8.1 miles between the two parking entrances, and 24 minutes with no traffic at all. Going to the wrong one on the day could cost you the ship, so confirm the terminal before you book a car.

Manhattan Cruise Terminal

The terminal sits on 12th Avenue on the West Side, between West 47th and West 54th Streets. Ports America manages it. Cruise NYC advises public transport to and from the terminal rather than driving.

  • Pier. Expect Pier 88, at West 48th Street. The terminal has three piers, 88, 90 and 92, and Cruise NYC's July 2026 traffic plan says only Pier 88 is operational. A city study from February 2026 calls Pier 92 inoperable, and Cruise Hive reported in March 2026 that Pier 90 had closed to cruise ships over infrastructure problems. Every Manhattan call with a berth filled in on the official calendar since 2 September 2026 is at berth 1 or 2, the two sides of Pier 88.
  • By car or taxi. All vehicles enter at 55th Street and 12th Avenue, which is also State Route 9A. Cars and taxis use the second level, where passengers and bags are dropped at the curb. Coaches and limos use the ground level. Cars leave at West 46th Street.
  • By subway. Cruise NYC sends riders to Columbus Circle, on the A, B, C, D and 1 trains. Walk south on 8th Avenue, turn right on 52nd Street and continue to 12th Avenue.
  • By bus. Cruise NYC names the M57 and M31. Holland America also lists the M12, M42 and M50.
  • By ferry. The nearest NYC Ferry landing is Midtown West/Pier 79 on the St. George route, which Cruise NYC calls West 39th Street. A one-way ticket was $5.00 on 30 October 2026.
  • By train. Penn Station and Grand Central are the closest stations. Cruise NYC says taxis are readily available at both.
  • On foot. You have to cross 12th Avenue and the Hudson River Greenway, a two-way path. Cruise NYC's traffic plan says cyclists rarely yield to pedestrians there, so watch for bikes while you pull your bags.

After the cruise, Cruise NYC points you to a taxi stand and a holding lot for pre-arranged cars, both outside the terminal. The city's 2025 traffic plan puts two taxi zones on northbound 12th Avenue, between West 47th and 48th Streets and between West 49th and 50th Streets.

Brooklyn Cruise Terminal

The terminal is on Pier 12 in Red Hook. Cruise NYC labels 210 Clinton Wharf as the address for GPS use only. Ports America manages this terminal too, and Cruise NYC advises ferry, bus and subway over driving.

  • By car or taxi. All cars enter at Bowne Street and Imlay Street. From I-278, take Exit 26 for Hamilton Avenue, follow the service road to Van Brunt Street, turn left, go two blocks and turn right onto Bowne Street. Cruise NYC's page has the full route.
  • Entrance work in late 2027. Cruise NYC's July 2026 traffic plan says the city's Red Hook Coastal Resiliency Project may close that main entrance for a period in late 2027. The schedule was not final when the plan came out, so check before a late 2027 sailing.
  • By ferry. NYC Ferry's South Brooklyn route stops at Red Hook/Atlantic Basin, next to the terminal, and Cunard calls it a five-minute walk. The ride from Wall Street/Pier 11 took about 15 minutes on the weekday timetable on 30 October 2026, and a one-way ticket was $5.00.
  • Free ferry shuttle. Cruise NYC's July 2026 plan offers cruise passengers a complimentary NYC Ferry shuttle between Red Hook and Wall Street/Pier 11 from June to December 2026, on cruise days with more than 2,000 passengers. The plan lists each date, ending on 19 December 2026. We found no 2027 dates.
  • By subway and bus. Take the 2, 3, 4, 5, N or R to Borough Hall, then walk four blocks south to the B61 stop on Atlantic Avenue at Court Street. Get off at Pioneer Street and Van Brunt Street. The terminal entrance at Pioneer and Conover Streets is about four long blocks on foot.
  • By car service. Cruise NYC names Executive Transportation Group as an authorized car service, on 718.438.1100.

Do Royal Caribbean and Celebrity sail from Manhattan or Brooklyn?

No. Royal Caribbean and Celebrity sail from Cape Liberty Cruise Port, 4 Port Terminal Boulevard, Bayonne, New Jersey, not from either city terminal. Royal Caribbean sells these trips as cruises "from Cape Liberty (New York)", which is why people look for them in the city. Cape Liberty is about 13 miles by road from the Manhattan terminal and 14 from Brooklyn. This site covers the two city terminals only, so it does not list those sailings.

Does MSC still sail from New York?

Not as a regular service. Cruise NYC says MSC Meraviglia stopped calling at Brooklyn on 19 April 2026, ending weekly year-round sailings that began in 2023. The official calendar shows one more call, at Manhattan on 8 November 2026, on a 24-day one-way voyage from Livorno to Miami. It shows no MSC ship after that through 22 December 2027, and this site lists no MSC sailings.

Does Virgin Voyages still sail from New York?

Not on the official calendar. Valiant Lady's last call there is 19 October 2026, at Brooklyn, and no Virgin ship appears after that through 22 December 2027. This site lists no Virgin sailings.

What happens when you reach the terminal?

Cruise NYC's page for both terminals says you arrive at street level, where signs on the pillars nearest the berth name each ship. Take one of the two passenger elevators at the head of the pier, or the escalator, up to the Customs Hall. Porters take your checked bags to the ship.

Cruise NYC says adults must keep a boarding pass and government-issued photo ID to hand until they are past the security checkpoint. Our first-cruise guide covers arrival times and security, the parking guide covers both lots, and the airport guide covers the trip from JFK, LaGuardia and Newark. If you want to arrive the night before, see hotels near the cruise port.

Accessibility

Both terminals have handicap parking at the standard rate. Cruise NYC says to request a wheelchair through your cruise line, not the terminal. The Port Authority lists the Accessible Dispatch program for wheelchair-accessible taxis, on +1 646 599 9999 or by text to +1 646 400 0789.

Who to call

  • Ports America, which runs both terminals, is on 212.641.4440.
