Most Canada and New England cruises from New York leave between late August and the end of October, and fall foliage is the reason most people book them. The schedule has 56 sailings, with a lowest fare of $447 per person on 31 October 2026, for the cheapest cabin with taxes and fees included.

The choice is usually between a 7-night round trip, mostly on Regal Princess, and a longer one-way trip that ends in Quebec City or Montreal. The table at the end of this guide lists every sailing with today's fares.

When are fall foliage cruises from New York?

Fall foliage cruises from New York leave from mid-September to late October, because the color reaches Quebec City first and the coast of Maine last.

Nova Scotia, including HalifaxBuilds through late September and OctoberTourism Nova Scotia
Coast of Maine, including PortlandAnywhere from 7 October to late October in 2020 to 2024Maine's state foliage reports

No cruise line can promise the leaves. Tourism Nova Scotia says the timing varies by region, elevation and weather, and in one of those five years Maine's coastal peak came after the state's last report of the season.

Regal Princess's October departures reach Portland on the fourth day and Halifax on the sixth, which suits Maine and Nova Scotia. For Quebec City, the one-way trips that leave New York in the second half of September get there in late September or early October.

Canada and New England cruises from New York: which months?

Almost all of them leave between late August and the end of October, and September is the busiest month. Earlier in the year the choice is thin. Carnival Firenze has 5-night trips from late May to August 2027, and Queen Mary 2 has a 7-night round trip around the start of July.

Which ships sail to Canada and New England from New York?

Royal Caribbean's Canada trips leave from Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey, which this site does not list. Disney Wish's 6-night trip in October 2027 calls at Bermuda and Halifax, and it is in our Bermuda guide.

Do cruises from New York stop in Boston, Halifax and Quebec City?

Halifax and Boston are on most of these sailings, and Quebec City is mostly reached on one-way trips.

  • Halifax. On almost every sailing. The exceptions are Explora's 10-night trips, Queen Mary 2's 7-night one-way in September 2027, and Carnival Firenze's 4-night trip and its August 2027 5-night.
  • Boston. On every Regal Princess and Norwegian Gem sailing. Carnival Firenze does not stop there.
  • Portland and Saint John. On most 7-night trips. Regal Princess calls at Eastport, Maine, in place of Portland on some late-August and early-September sailings, and it skips Saint John on others.
  • Newport. On Regal Princess sailings from about mid-September.
  • Quebec City. On nearly all the one-way trips to Quebec City and Montreal. Two round trips go there as well, Queen Mary 2's 14-night trip in September and Explora V's 20-night trip in 2028.
  • Bar Harbor. Only on two one-way trips in 2027, on Seabourn Quest and Seven Seas Grandeur.

Should you book a one-way or round-trip Canada cruise from New York?

Book a round trip if you want the lower fare and no flight, and book a one-way if Quebec City or Montreal is the reason for going.

Fares are per person with taxes and fees included. They do not cover the flight home from a one-way.

Queen Mary 2's 7-night one-way to Quebec City is the shortest. When this guide was checked on 30 October 2026, it also cost far less than the small-ship one-ways.

Do you need a passport for a one-way cruise to Canada?

Yes, plan on a passport for a cruise that ends in Canada. U.S. Customs and Border Protection accepts a birth certificate and photo ID from U.S. citizens on closed-loop cruises, which begin and end at the same U.S. port, and a trip ending in Montreal or Quebec City is not one.

You also fly home, and CBP says U.S. citizens need a passport to enter the United States by air from Canada. Our documents guide covers the rest, including what the round trips need.

Which New York terminal do Canada cruises use?

It depends on the ship. On the official Cruise NYC calendar, which runs to 22 December 2027, the Princess and Cunard sailings to Canada use the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, and every other line uses the Manhattan Cruise Terminal. The terminals for later sailings are not published yet, so check before you book a hotel or a car.

Our Canada and New England destination page lists the sailings by date, and our season guide shows what else leaves in the fall.
